City streets to see rennovation
In light of recent city efforts to cost effectively improve the appearance, maintainability and structure of Champaign City streets, the city council is scheduled to vote on a resolution to approve a new Street Pavement Plan today.
The resolution dictates that the city will fund Engineering and Research International (ERI), Inc. in the amount of $332,877.86 for then next three years and will contract them for future phases of pavement management services as well, until June, 2008.
The Pavement Management System is designed to provide useful information and data that will help make the decisions of city policy makers and street planners, pertaining to the preservation and serviceability of the pavement infrastructure, more consistent and cost effective.
"It is less costly to maintain street pavements before they reach a critical condition than it is to rehabilitate or replace failed pavements," stated City Manager, Steven C. Carter, within a report to the city council.
