A new Great America
It is once again that time of year ladies and gentlemen, after an elongated and cold winter, we are treated to the warmth and excitement that both spring and summer seasons bring. Within that time, one of our cities better and well renown attractions opens its doors for the masses to flow through. That's right, the opening of Six Flags Great America is right around the corner. The park opens on Saturday, May 4 for weekend operation, and May 16 for daily operation through august 25.
Though the opening this year does not resemble the years previous - there aren't any new rides - Great America does still present a high level of fun and excitement for the whole family. Once again the people over at Six Flags have granted us the option of riding the famed American Eagle backwards - a ride that never gets boring, and always seems to produce a smile.
Joining in on the American Eagles glory are the newest and previously introduced costars from last year, Vertical Velocity (V2) and Déjà Vu. In addition the rides, Six Flags has also gained a total of six new shows, with a "troupe-of-tumblers, trapeze artists, aerial-flight-specialists, gymnasts, and contortionists" headlining in an entertainment extravaganza named ZAJIE! An Acrobatic Adventure that has come straight out of china.
This years Great America madness wont stop, its one and only downside comes as a harsh reality to most. Once again the park has raised its prices from the previous year. The price of general admission is now a hefty $39.99, while children are admitted for $29.99 and parking has an additional $10 price tag. A Season Pass is now $91.99, the Family Four-Pack $287.96, a Next Day Pass $10.00, and a Multi-Visit Pass $15.00. It's unfortunate that this is an occurrence every year, for most it is easy to remember a time when all of these prices were substantially lower.
Even with the price increase, Six Flags is a consistent and majorly attracting facet of the local economy each year. It brings people from all around; people come from different states, even from different countries to visit Great Americas exciting grounds. This year will be no different, our main streets will be packed with cars and our economy boosting once again.
Though the park will be charging more this year, people will be certainly be spending money this coming summer, and as a result having fun - and in the end, that's what it's really that's what its really all about.
