Wood For Governor
On Thursday, Feb. 14, Lt. Gov. Corinne Wood announced that she would be running for governor against the Attorney General, Jim Ryan, and the State Sen. Patrick O'Malley.
While Ryan, and O'Malley are certainly the conservatives of the major contenders, Wood presented herself has a the more liberal of the three. In a bold statement Wood stated that she would be "shaking things up," and "turning the government upside down."
The U of I grad went on to state that she would be "bringing in different ideas, new ways of doing things, and a different style of a 'fresh and new' leadership." One of her major issues Wood address we her boisterousness policy about being pro choice for abortion. In addition she's presented radical changes to our tax reform, health care, unemployment, transportation and education systems all inline with her 'multi-issue' plan.
If elected Wood would were to be elected, she would be the first woman Governor of Illinois to hold office, as the first woman Lieutenant Governor, she said she feels this is the time for a new precedent to be set. Stating that the previous republican candidates were too 'extreme' for our Illinois population, and said that she would be the happy medium to solve to problems of the state.
Woods is a mother of three children, and "has the confidence and know how to be the better governor." With a strong will and solid ideal, Woods' announcement riled the crowd with each statement, making what could have been a short speech reach lengths of a half an hour. Wood already has a strong following but we'll have to wait an see if Corinne Wood really "means business."
