A Formal Introduction
Hello, I'd like to welcome you all to my new weekly editorial. As you may know I've been with Gameunit for about two and half years, and joined Mygamer (an affiliate website) when it just started up about three to four months ago. I began writing as a simple a lowly game reviewer, and now I'm a senior editor, so that goes to show, success can happen to you too! ;-) In any-case, I will be discussing many topics here, ones that both plague and improve the gaming industry. A sort of week review of the most important topics, or whatever seems to be on my mind at the time. So without further or do, let's get to it shall we?
The gaming news has been sort of nonstop for the past month, because most of the companies are gearing up for the new year, and want to get the word out about their hit titles. So far I have to say, it's been fairly successful. The biggest news of last month was of course the arrival of the new Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. This game practically took the pc industry by storm, EA has got to be proud of it. Gamers are raving and ranting about it all over the place, and with good reason, not only does the game look and sound amazing, it has incorporated some of the best ideas we've seen in a FPS/Action game. Its gotten near perfect reviews, has been said its already in contention for pc game of the year, and has even had websites start up because of it. Though the success has been great for the pc, the console market was fairly dormant in the previous month.
It's a given that after the simply HUGE holiday season we had, that there would be a period of recovery. January was that month, though some games were released, the 'Big Named Titles' were lying in wait for the next month, February and the rest of the year. So what can we expect this month? Well that ones easy, try Maximo: Ghosts to Glory, State of Emergency, Virtua Fighter 4, Medal of Honor: Frontline, Genma Onimusha, Jet Set Radio Future, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (xbox), and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. This is a simply huge list of great games for all the systems in one month, and its going to be like this ALL YEAR LONG! If your not loving it now, your never going to, because even in this recessionary period, the gaming industry is still looking strong as ever.
Though our economy is not doing to greatest its ever been, due to the fact of both the recession and the war, we as a people are standing strong. The only direction this year for the Gaming world is up, up, and up. Simply put, we've got a lot to look forward to, and that's the true point, is to enjoy ever minute of it. Support what you believe in, video games!
After the surly exceptional holiday period, we've got a ton of things to look out for. The so called 'Battle of the Brand Names' will go into its most important phase this year. The successor after this year might lead the pack for a long time to come. In a spectacular quirk of fate, we will get to experience it all, who will win. Does that really mater? Not in the least, for we're all going to get a load of great games, and truly, that's all the counts. Sure the battle will be somewhat interesting, but doesn't this seem to happen every 5 years? This event has truly been over publicized, and greatly exaggerated, if I have to sit through another session of reading it in a magazine, I'll have to kill myself. Sure it's big a big event, but in the end, the person that ultimately decides who's going to be win is the gamer.
Surely this concept is evident to everyone, you decide who stays who goes, you decide which games are the best, you decide what has success and what doesn't, and YOU decide which system you like the most. It's all a matter of opinion and each person is entitled to their own. It should be nothing but common courtesy to respect the ideas of others, for it's a basic trait in humanity. Unless harmful to ones self, the ideas and concepts of other people demand to be respected. Granted, respect doesn't mean non-argument, I'll be the first person to argue for my views, to help "enlighten" others so-to-speak. As just about any gamer knows, all the Fanboys of the world make it difficult to respect their ideas, because put modestly, they're idiots and act accordingly. They rant they rave about who is the best, and how everyone else is stupid, it's not even possible to construct a sensible argument with them. They seem to resemble those five to seven year olds in that "NAAA NAAAA NAAA I can't HEEEAARRRRR you!!" kind of way. Highly annoying, yes, immature, yes, respect them? Hah, hell no! Any kind of rational person could not allow themselves to be berated with annoyingly stupid content, misjudgment, ignorant ideals, and highly biased views.
I say put a stop to it anytime you see it if you have the power. They seem to like to cause attention to themselves for that's the only way any one would ever notice them. Its seems as the years move on, the amount of idiocy is steadily increasing. Its time to have the educated gamer on top. With out their simply ignorant statements, where would this world be? In perfect peace and harmony, that's where! I don't mean to get off on a rant, but to your local Fanboys, just say no!
In any-case, the gaming industry is gearing up for the exciting year to come, just show your support in any method possible, write letters, emails, buy games, complain about lackluster designs, everything and anything you can. For in the end, the success of these companies comes down to only one group of people, you, the gamers!
